I had the honor of volunteering with Hollywood Heart this past week by teaching baking classes. “Hollywood Heart is a nonprofit that empowers undeserved youth through education and exploration of the arts.” This year was the 20th anniversary. The camp was a week long, held in Malibu CA with youth coming from all over the country. It was really inspiring to be surrounded by young people that were so full of life and dreams despite their personal battles. I walked away learning so much more than I taught.
This is the gorgeous view of Malibu from the camp. Definitely not a bad place to spend a week in.
We made chocolate cupcakes filled with Oreos, topped with vanilla and chocolate buttercream, and sprinkles. Yum!
The last night a Gala was held showcasing all the hard work these amazing artists had dedicated a week of time to. All forms of art were presented from creative writing to culinary arts, fashion, music, visual arts, and theater. The talent was overwhelming. Here the founder David Gale speaks at the Gala for this organization he started in 1995 that has changed so many lives. I saw the influence he has had, and it truly is heart warming. I cried tears of joy and compassion. I will definitely be back next year!
