Halloween

Halloween is my favorite holiday! I love horror movies, and all things that go bump in the night. Although my theme of life is sexy, this is the one day of the year that I can be a scary freak! No naughty nurse costume here. My friends and I channeled the Shining Twins and Danny, taking first place in our work costume contest. I spent Halloween evening in a movie marathon hosted by Eli Roth at the New Beverly Cinema in Los Angels. Meeting Eli was a dream come true!

I was craving Oreos so I made chocolate cupcakes stuffed with ores, topped with three different spooks.

Chocolate Oreo Cupcake Recipe

2 ½ cups cake flour
1 ½ cups sugar
¾ cups cocoa powder
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
1/2 cup milk
½ cup vegetable oil
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup coffee
1 package Oreos

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line 24-36 muffin tins with liners and place an oreo cookie flat in the middle. In an electric bowl fitted with the paddle attachment combine the wet ingredients except the coffee. In another bowl combine the dry ingredients. Mix the dry into the wet slowly incorporating the coffee. Beat just until combined. pour your batter over the oreos until the cup is 2/3 of the way full. Bake 15-20 minutes.

Buttercream and Decor

1 cup shortening
1/2 cup butter
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 cups powdered sugar
1 cup Oreos but in a blender or food processor to resemble dirt
1 bag of gummy worms (I chose sour)
1 bag of candy melt wafers (melted)
1 skull candy mold
1/4 cup chocolate chips

Buttercream: Beat the butter and shortening on medium-high speed until it is shiny and smooth. Add the vanilla extract and powdered sugar 1 cup at a time. Beat until smooth and stiff. You can add more or less sugar, to reach your perfect consistency. Lets get frosting!

Ghosts: Place a round tip with a 1/2 inch diameter in a pastry bag. Fill with buttercream and make round stacked swirls on your cupcakes, ending with a peak. top with two chocolate chips for eyes.

Worms: Evenly spread a dollop of buttercream on your cupcakes. Dip each cupcake in the Oreo crumbs, until all buttercream is covered. Top with worms.

Skulls: Place a round tip with a 1/2 inch diameter in a pastry bag. Fill with buttercream and make one round, blob on your cupcakes. Spoon your melted candy wafers into the skull mold. Tap out air bubbles and place in the freezer for 5 minutes. Tap the mold on the counter to release the candy skulls. Top off your blob off buttercream.

There you have it! These are so easy, cute, and fun! Kids will have a blast making these.
